Using sport to promote peaceful coexistence

F4P International Training Camp in Northern Ireland

Ireland2F4P has a long history of working in Ireland and Northern Ireland, where peace education is of vast importance due to the sectarian conflict between Irish and Northern Irish communities. In April 2016, F4P worked together with The Peace Link to deliver values-based and life skills coaching methodology to students, NGO and sport governing bodies representatives.

The Peace Link is a sporting facility on the edge of Clones, Co. Monaghan.
The facility is at the heart of a movement to build better relationships between people in the Clones (Co. Monaghan) /Erne East (Co. Fermanagh) area, using sport as the medium.

There were 25 participants, with 12 of them newly certified as Tier 1 and 6 of them as Tier 2 coaches. The training camp covered theory sessions, practical sessions at the Peace Link facilities which included football and alternative activities such as team building, trust building and problem solving exercises and new games such as Gaelic football and foot golf. Non-Irish participants particularly enjoyed the new games that increased their awareness of local culture and traditions.
