2016 International Training Camp @ University of Brighton

img_7601F4P International are running their annual International Training Camp in Eastbourne and Falmer in the UK, from Saturday 17 to Tuesday 20th September 2016. With 60 participants from 13 different countries, the camp is truly international in nature.  The focus is on developing a philosophy of values and life skills based coaching and creating an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and experience of the role of sport in peace education.

The attendees include:

  • 30 students from the University of Brighton on sport related courses
  • 8 staff and alumni
  • 4 refugee delegates from Iran, Sudan and the DR Congo
  • 7 delegates from national agencies including NGO’s and governing bodies based in England and Northern Ireland.
  • 10 international delegates from universities and NGO’s based in South Africa, South Korea and Czech Republic.

The first day began with a welcome by co-founder Dr. Gary Stidder and a presentation about our philosophy, aims and values.  Experienced project leaders led the ice-breaking exercises for all the participants training to become TIer 1 coaches. Fun and values-oriented spirit of the activities definitely ‘broke the ice’ and the participants already began exchanging their ideas and perceptions of values, sport, and peace.

Day 2 continued with a lecture delivered by Graham Spacey, Doori Yang of Korean Sharing Movement and Andrew Waterworth of the Irish FA on Sport and Conflict.  The groups were then introduced to a series of activities deisgned to promote teamwork, build trust and cohesion that incorporate certain values and life skills.  The afternoon saw the F4P trainers / mentors introduce the football and rugby specific activities.  Simon Green and Jessica Foster demonstrated the pedagogical theories associated with the F4P methodology through practical delivery.
